The season finally kicked off in January and our early block of racing produced some impressive performances. But who will be Rider of the Month?
Opening up his season on home roads, Egan took third place in the time trial nationals. After the TT he said: “I think I should be happy with the result. This is my first race of the season and I think that, looking at my numbers, I did a really good time trial. I should be happy because my first big goal will be Le Tour de France. I can’t be at 100% in the nationals but it’s a good test ahead of the next races.”
After taking the runner-up spot in the Aussie national TT championship, Team INEOS' new signing enjoyed a consistent showing at Tour Down Under. Coming away with fourth place, but missing out on a podium by the tightest of margins, the event marked a good introduction for Dennis ahead of the season to come.
Another rider who is expected to have a strong year, Sivakov played a good supporting role during Tour Down Under, picking up the Young Rider's jersey for his troubles. He also launched a spirited late attack at Race Torquay, taking some strong form into February.
The Dutchman continued his impressive stage race progression, going toe to toe with the GC contenders at Tour Down Under and eventually coming away with fifth place overall - finishing on the same time as second spot.
