Tour de l'Ain - Stage two: Lagnieu › Lélex Monts-Jura, 140.5km

Egan Bernal produced a gutsy ride under pressure to secure a second place finish on day two at the Tour de l'Ain.

Despite finding himself isolated at points during the finale, the Colombian was able to finish just behind stage winner Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) to place himself firmly in contention ahead of Sunday's queen stage.

Jumbo-Visma rode hard throughout the day, causing the peloton to shatter on the penultimate climb of the Col de Menthieres. Geraint Thomas began to slip back with 25km to go, with Jonathan Castroviejo putting in a valiant effort to stay in touch. He was able to regain contact on the descent to provide valuable support for Bernal on the run-in.

Castroviejo eventually finished ninth on the stage, 19 seconds back. Bernal now sits just 10 seconds off the lead of Roglic, with only bonus seconds separating the pair thus far.

Tao Geoghegan Hart's day got off to a tough start following a crash in the opening kilometres. The young Brit was able to complete the stage.

Sunday's queen stage traces the route of stage 15 of the upcoming Tour de France, and should provide a showdown on the Grand Colombier.
