Egan Bernal showed incredible grit and determination to sprint to second place on day two of O Gran Camino.

Brutal wet and freezing conditions greeted the riders across the undulating test, which saw the lead group split apart on the final climb.

Bernal was looked after superbly by his team-mates, and was quick to react following the initial acceleration of defending champion Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma | Lease a Bike).

A lead group of four quickly formed, with Bernal the only rider able to hang with Vingegaard before the Dane unleashed his winning attack late on. Bernal was able to out-sprint Jefferson Cepeda (Caja Rural) at the line to move into second overall, 28 seconds back on Vingegaard.

On the approach to the final climb Jonathan Castroviejo, Omar Fraile and Josh Tarling rode well to position Bernal to the fore. The cold temperatures meant Tarling had little chance to display his yellow jersey, following Thursday's opening stage win.

Ethan Hayter was caught out in a crash with 58km to go but continued on, while Michal Kwiatkowski was forced to abandon on what proved to be a difficult day for the entire peloton.
