Egan Bernal secured third place overall in Volta Catalunya after safely crossing the line on the final stage into Barcelona.

The 145 kilometre day saw the bunch negotiate the traditional Montjuïc circuit six times, in which the team were to the fore to cement the Colombian’s GC position.

Bernal was attentive in following moves right to the finish, ensuring he remained part of an elite lead group on a tight and technical run-in.

"I’m just happy. Really proud of the team, and for myself. It was a really hard week, but in the end we did well. "It was the goal of the team (to get on the podium) but also, being realistic, from where I came, it would be difficult to. But that is what I had on my mind! "The team was working towards that from the beginning... thanks to them we did it. 'It's incredible to be on the podium in a WorldTour race again!"
