Egan Bernal finished a narrow second at Tour Colombia following a grandstand finish to stage four.

Team INEOS seized the initiative on the final Alto Malterias climb, setting a searing pace before Richard Carapaz launched an acceleration.

Pulling a select group clear, which included Bernal, the GC contenders headed into the finish, but not before Carapaz launched a second move.

The Ecuadorian opened out what looked like it could be a winning margin heading into the final kilometre, only to be reeled in with the finish in sight - eventually finishing sixth.

Bernal was able to sweep through to take second, but was just unable to overhaul race leader Sergio Higuita (EF Pro Cycling).

The result and bonus seconds saw Bernal move up to fourth overall, 50 seconds back, with Carapaz now fifth and a further six seconds back on his teammate heading into the final two stages.
