Richard Carapaz sprinted to sixth place and advanced his general classification position at the Tour de Suisse following an exciting second stage.

The Ecuadorian was able to make his way into a lead split in the peloton on the descent off the day’s main climb, Oberricken, with support from Eddie Dunbar and Pavel Sivakov.

Dunbar kicked off the accelerations on the final Litschstrasse ramp, with Carapaz able to follow the moves from the likes of Julian Alaphilippe and Mathieu van der Poel.

On slick roads the group splintered and Carapaz battled well amongst elite company to finish sixth, elevating himself to the same position overall.

Richie sits just 13 seconds back on early leader Stefan Kung (Groupama-FDJ), with Dunbar also moving up to 18th after finishing well in the second group.

At the finish into Lachen it was Van der Poel (Alpecin-Fenix) who proved the strongest in the sprint, taking the stage win.
