Rohan Dennis continued his great form in e-racing to claim victory in the opening event of the Digital Swiss 5.

The Velon event saw 19 teams each enter three riders, tackling a mountainous course that featured real roads from the Tour de Suisse.

Dennis, fresh from his recent win versus his teammates in the inaugural Team INEOS eRace, started at a strong pace before edging into the lead on the first climb.

After overhauling Jimmy Whelan (EF Pro Cycling), Dennis began to extend his lead, setting an impressive pace to push his advantage out to beyond a minute. His eventual winning margin over Nicolas Roche (Team Sunweb) was 1:09.

Cameron Wurf was another rider to start strongly, holding an early third place before eventually securing an impressive top-10 finish. Carlos Rodriguez was the third rider in action on the day, with another three riders set to be announced on Thursday morning, ahead of race two in the afternoon.

- Rohan Dennis

“It feels pretty good. It was more or less a 53-minute time trial. Obviously aerodynamics doesn’t come into play but weight does. It’s all about the power to weight – so it’s good to know that the training that I’m doing right now is really working for my time trialling in particular.

“I’m not going to lie, it was hard. My legs were cramped and in the last 10-15mins I was feeling it. I just don’t think I felt it as much as some other people might. But don’t get me wrong, that hurt!”
