Kristoffer Halvorsen sprinted to eighth place to cap off a wet opening day at the BinckBank Tour.
The Norwegian was looked after in the closing stages by teammate Chris Lawless as the riders tackled laps around Hulst in the pouring rain.
Halvorsen arrived to the fore in the final metres, but ultimately saw his path to the line blocked on the way to his 17th top 10 of the year.
At the finish it was Sam Bennett (Bora-Hansgrohe) who timed his kick to perfection, taking the victory and an early race lead.
