Fast and furious on stage 19

Vuelta a Espana stage 19: Tapia › Monforte de Lemos, 191.2km.

Egan Bernal and Adam Yates maintained their overall positions after a hectic stage 19 of the Vuelta a Espana which saw Magnus Cort (EF Education -Nippo) win from the break.

With a short flat section before the first categorised climb of the day, the battle for the break was always going to be intense, but the pace from the early kilometres barely let up for the entire 191.2km stage.

Tom Pidcock and Pavel Sivakov tried to join the initial band of 24 escapees on multiple occasions, but were pulled back into the peloton as the break established itself. The strong group was not allowed to extend their lead beyond a couple of minutes though, which led to intense racing throughout.

Despite the gap coming down to 20 seconds in the final kilometres, the break managed to hold on and Bernal and Yates were able to finish safely behind as the GC picture remained the same ahead of the final two stages.
