Tao Geoghegan Hart pushed on in the closing kilometres of stage three to extend his race leading advantage at Tour of the Alps.

The Brit looked to control an elite group of favourites and opted to hit the front and accelerate on the approach to the summit of Brentonico San Valentino. Geoghegan Hart was chasing down a trio of escapees and limited his losses superbly to finish fourth on the day, just four seconds back on winner Lennard Kamna (Bora-Hansgrohe).

The end result sees Tao take a 22-second lead over Hugh Carthy (EF Education-EasyPost) into the fair pair of stages.

Pavel Sivakov put in a key pull on the front to help nullify the attacks of Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain Victorious), Kamna and Jefferson Cepeda (EF Education-EasyPost). The Grenadier was able to hold on well despite his efforts, finishing 10th on the stage and now sitting eighth overall.

In contrast to the opening two days, the Grenadiers were prepared for other teams to take it up on the front with a larger break of 12 riders to monitor during the day.

On his 21st birthday Magnus Sheffield hit out to lead the peloton onto the famous climb. Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) continued his incredible run of form with victory.

The team helped control the race in the earlier phases, with the ever-dependable Cam Wurf putting in long stints on the front. The Ardennes trilogy concludes on Sunday with Liege-Bastogne-Liege.
