Grenadiers fifth in team time trial

Stage 3 (TTT) » Auxerre › Auxerre 26.9km

The INEOS Grenadiers put in a respectable team time trial to place fifth on the third stage of Pairs-Nice.

The 27 kilometre long course to Auxerre was far from simple, with a pair of tough climbs and a testing ramp to the finish line.

Through the intermediate time check, and the Grenadiers were provisionally third, six seconds back on the top team. On what was a rapid run-in, the team pushed all the way to the line to finish 22 seconds back on eventual winners UAE - Team Emirates.

The result sees Egan Bernal maintain his top 10 position on GC, with Carlos Rodriguez and Laurens De Plus just behind in 11th and 13th respectively.

Reaction

Egan Bernal:

“It’s good to have the two options for sure. Carlos is very strong, he was fifth in the Tour last year and we all know how talented he is. I think to compete against Roglic and Remco it’s better to have more cards to play. For sure we have to try something, and let’s see how the race is tomorrow."

Carlos Rodriguez:

“I think it was a good time trial. For sure we could improve in some things, but it is how it is. You can’t do everything perfect, but I’m super happy with how the team committed with our performance. We look forward to the next days where we hope to take the battle to the other contenders.”
