Giro d'Italia - Stage 3 » Vasto › Melfi, 213km

Geraint Thomas and Tao Geoghegan Hart stayed out of trouble and remain well placed on the Giro d'Italia general classification following stage three.

Wet roads on the downhill run into Melfi made a tricky finish even more stressful for the peloton, but the Grenadiers worked well to help position their GC duo over the final climb.

After strong lead-in work by Ben Swift and Salvatore Puccio the team hit the front, with a powerful final turn by Laurens De Plus ensuring Thomas and Geoghegan Hart were well placed for the descent. The pair now sit sixth (+58") and seventh (+1:02) overall, with Filippo Ganna slipping back following the first significant climbs of the race.

At the finish it was a reduced peloton that contested the sprint finish, with Michael Matthews (Jayco AlUla) edging out the win over Mads Pedersen (Trek Segafredo).
