Grenadiers trio in contention

Critérium du Dauphiné stage two: Brioude › Saugues, 172.8km.

Geraint Thomas, Richie Porte and Tao Geoghegan Hart stayed in contention in the general classification following an undulating test on stage two of the Critérium du Dauphiné.

The trio finished in a front group that was frustrated by solo winner Lukas Postlberger, who held off the advancing peloton to win the stage from the breakaway and move into the race lead.

The Grenadiers worked well as a team to bring the rest of the break to heel, with Dylan van Baarle, Michal Kwiatkowski, Carlos Rodriguez and Andrey Amador pulling the early escapees back into contention after they stole a march on the peloton in the early stages.

Postlberger remained the sole leader and despite a peloton splitting as the pace increased to catch him, the Bora-Hansgrohe rider stayed away to earn the leader's yellow jersey.
