Hayter sprints to first win of 2021

Ethan Hayter sprinted to his first win of 2021 following a fine team performance on day three at Coppi e Bartali.
The young Brit crossed the line a bike's length clear of his closest competitor Shane Archbold (Deceuninck - Quick-Step) and celebrated with a roar. He moves up to second overall, just one second off race leader Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo Visma).
Hayter has had his fair share of bad luck this season and must have thought more of the same was on the way when he punctured with teammate Sebastian Henao, 35 kilometres from the finish and five kilometres from the day's crucial climb.
But neither panicked, and they made their way back to the front of the race in time for the technical descent on the run in to Riccione.
The team expected attacks on the gnarly run to the line and eventually a strong move went from Antonio Nibali (Trek-Segafredo), but work from Henao and latterly Carlos Rodriguez nullified his move.
Then it was over to road captain Ben Swift to marshal the boys in and lead Hayter out, which he did to perfection.
Ivan Sosa rolled home in the front group and now sits fourth on GC, on the same time as teammate Hayter. The duo will be ready to race hard again across the final punchy two days in Italy.
