Michal Kwiatkowski put in a determined performance as he battled to a top 10 finish at Liège-Bastogne-Liège as Primoz Roglic (Jumbo VIsma) won the race on the line.

The Polish rider was part of a the first chase group that finished behind a lead quintet who contested the Monument in a sprint finish, with Roglic edging Julian Alaphilippe (Deuceunick-Quickstep).

Having been dropped by the leaders in the closing kilometres, Kwiatkowski battled back by joining the chase group and sealing 10th in La Doyenne.

Earlier, the former world champion was part of the decisive move that decided the race as he escaped an ever-reducing peloton with Alaphilippe, Roglic, Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) and Marc Hirschi (Team Sunweb) on the Côte de la Roche-aux-Faucons.

The chase behind them was not organised enough to claw them back and the quintet were able to create a small lead until Hirschi attacked again with 11 kilometres remaining.

This time Kwiatkowski was unable to respond to the Sunweb rider's acceleration and he dropped back to aid the chase, finishing 10th after a tough
