Vuelta a Espana - Stage 20 » Manzanares El Real › Guadarrama, 207.8km
Pavel Sivakov claimed a fourth podium finish in four races as he put in an attacking performance to finish third at Memorial Marco Pantani.
The Italian one-day event played out at a rapid pace, with Sivakov part of a move that pushed on heading into the final 40 kilometres.
Joined by Alexey Lutsenko (Astana) and Marc Hirschi (UAE Team Emirates), the trio combined well and would go on to fill out the podium positions, with Lutsenko taking the win in the three-up sprint.
With the race split to pieces behind, Sivakov’s group came in 1:57 ahead of the next chasing trio.
Saturday also saw the penultimate stage of the Vuelta a Espana play out, with Geraint Thomas heading up the road in the breakaway.
The Welshman put in a battling performance, finishing 13th on a day of constant undulations. Wout Poels (Bahrain Victorious) won the stage, opening up his sprint early and fending off Remco Evenepoel (Soudal – Quick-Step). The 31-man group had begun to split up as attacks started to fire on the final climb, 14km from home.
The Grand Tour is set to conclude on Sunday with a circuit in Madrid and a likely bunch sprint.
Connor Swift was in action in Suffolk as he took in another gravel race outing – taking second place at the British Gravel Championships. The Brit was well placed as the race began to split up, but was forced to take the runner-up spot behind Joe Blackmore.
