Pidcock fifth in Tirreno Queen stage

Stage 6 » Sassoferrato › Cagli (Monte Petrano), 180km

Tom Pidcock climbed to fifth on the penultimate stage of Tirreno Adriatico with Thymen Arensman close behind in eighth. The performance sees the duo place ninth and sixth on GC respectively entering the final day of racing.

The sixth stage of the week-long contest was characterised by an aggressive style of racing, with Michał Kwiatkowski placing himself in a move of nine riders. The break were never given more than about two minutes advantage on the road, and Kwiato would drop back in the last 40 kilometres, in order aid the team.

Luke Rowe would drive the pace into the foot of the penultimate climb, before Magnus Sheffield and Filippo Ganna took over.

Onto the final climb, and the pace was fierce from the off. An elite group containing both Thymen and Tom would establish itself within just a couple of kilometres, before Jonas Vingegaard (Visma Lease-a-Bike) would go solo to take the win.

Back in the chase group, and the Yorkshireman would put in the lion’s share of the work, while still having enough to sprint to fifth on the line.

Over in Paris-Nice, Egan Bernal dug deep to limit his losses on the final climb, and cemented his top 10 on GC.
