Carlos Rodriguez rounded out an impressive season with a hard-fought fifth place at Il Lombardia.

The Spanish champion performed well in his debut at the late-season Monument, digging deep over the final climbs before fighting his way into a late chase group on the run into Como.

Rodriguez combined with Sergio Higuita (Bora-Hansgrohe) on the run-in, battling it out in the fourth and fifth place sprint. Up ahead a trio had gone clear to battle for the podium spots. Tadej Pogacar (UAE-Team Emirates) out-sprinted Enric Mas (Movistar) at the line to win, with Mikel Landa (Bahrain Victorious) coming home 10 seconds back after losing contact late on.

Adam Yates backed up the work of his teammate with a top 10 in his final race for the team. The Brit dug deep to finish in the second chase group, 1:26 back, to secure 10th overall.

Dani Martinez was also present in the lead group as a select peloton took the bell prior to the Civiglio climb. Tao Geoghegan Hart had also looked like being there before a mechanical issue forced a bike change with 38km to go.
