Carlos Rodriguez sprinted to seventh in the final monument of the season, Il Lombardia.

The historic one-day race begun with a rapid opening hour, with moves from both Ben Turner and Filippo Ganna being closed down by the peloton.

Eventually, Ben Swift was able to make it into a move of sixteen riders. 

Swift would be caught some 100 kilometres later, as the pace was slowly ramped up throughout the day.

On the final major climb, and the pace was increased exponentially. Rodriguez would make it into an elite group of eight that topped the climb together, before an attack by Tadej Pogacar on the descent saw him go solo.

Despite some strong turns, Carlos’ group was unable to bring the Slovenian back. As such, the Spaniard was forced to battle it out for minor placings, ultimately placing a strong seventh in Bergamo.
