Rodriguez third overall at Valencia

Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana stage 5: Paterna › Valencia, 92km.

Carlos Rodriguez sealed his first professional stage race podium as his consistent performances were rewarded with third overall at Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana.

The final stage came down to a bunch sprint, with Elia Viviani finishing second to stage winner Fabio Jakobsen (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team) to record his second podium of the week on his return to the team.

Rodriguez finished safely in the bunch to secure third, with Pavel Sivakov ninth and Tao Geoghegan Hart finishing 12th overall to help the the INEOS Grenadiers win the best team classification.

The Spanish rider backed up a strong third on the opening stage with second on the queen stage, to finish just four seconds off second place Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team) as Aleksandr Vlasov (Bora-Hansgrohe) won the race overall.
