A wrap-up of all the action on a busy nationals Sunday.

Carlos Rodriguez put in one of the finest rides of his young career to claim a dominant victory in the Spanish national road race.

The young Grenadier was active as the race moved into its closing stages, attacking a select lead group with 15 kilometres to go on the final climb and pushing on solo.

Rodriguez dropped back down into Palma with an eventual winning margin of 51 seconds over chasing duo Jesus Herrada (Cofidis) and Alexander Aranburu (Movistar).

The win ensured the Spanish road race jersey remained within the team, following Omar Fraile’s victory in 2021 ahead of his move to the Grenadiers.
Sunday also saw the British national championships, with Ben Turner taking a hard-fought fourth in the road race.

The Grenadiers took an attacking approach to the race, with Turner and Ethan Hayter going up the road early and on the front foot as part of breakaway groups.

Entering the final lap in a lead quartet, Turner tried his luck with a solo move but was gradually reeled back in and eventually had to settle for fourth. Mark Cavendish (Quick-Step-AlphaVinyl) won the three-up sprint in Castle Douglas, with Hayter eventually coming in for ninth.

Eddie Dunbar took an equally attacking approach to the Irish road race but would slip back late on, eventually finishing seventh.
