Magnus Sheffield retained third position overall after a gruelling second stage of the Tour Down Under.

Sheffield finished as part of a chase group which finished 11 seconds behind the lead group as Rohan Dennis (Jumbo Visma) won in Victor Harbor to take the overall lead.

Sheffield remains third, 12 seconds behind Dennis and retains his lead in the Zwift Young Rider's classification.

After early moves on the undulating terrain, which saw Luke Plapp and Sheffield make the front split of a stretched peloton, the race came back together before the stage was decided on Nettle Hill.

Attacks towards the summit of the category one climb saw a lead group of five escape over the summit.  With numerous GC threats in the group, the Grenadiers helped chase the quintet and reduced their lead - which was 42 seconds at one point - to limit losses and ensure Sheffield retained his strong overall position.
