Pavel Sivakov produced a superb ride to claim second place in an attrition-filled Grand Prix de Montreal.

The Grenadier unleashed one of his best-ever one-day results, battling it out with Adam Yates (UAE-Team Emirates) on the final lap in Canada.

Sivakov was able to follow Yates’ acceleration with 10.5 kilometres to go on the circuit’s main climb. The pair combined well together to open out a gap on a reduced chasing pack, and held on to go toe to toe on the uphill drag to the line. Alex Aranburu (Movistar) rounded out the podium, nine seconds behind Sivakov.

Sivakov has shown great legs 48 hours early on the streets of Quebec, and was supported well by his team-mates as the laps ticked down. Heading into the closing stages Dani Martinez and Ben Swift were present amongst an increasingly select peloton.
