Team ready for GC tests in Poland

The Team Sky duo have finished safely in the bunch in three consecutive sprint finishes and are raring to go ahead of the next phase of the race.

 

21 and 22 seconds respectively behind race leader and stage three victor Alvaro Hodeg (Quick-Step Floors), Kwiatkowski and Henao will be the protected riders as the race enters the hills from Tuesday.

 

Three days in Sport Director Gabriel Rasch is happy with the situation, with the team keeping their powder dry without a recognised sprinter in their ranks.

He told TeamSky.com: “I think we should be happy with the position we’re in. These first three stages have been all about not losing time on the GC, staying safe and saving energy. The main priority has been taking care of Kwiato and Sergio. Tomorrow is the first GC day and the first test. We’ll have to be on it.

 

“It’s a tough final tomorrow – with one kilometre at 11% up towards the finish. It’s going to be all about getting Sergio and Kwiato as fresh as possible into that last climb in good position. Then I think the legs will show who is feeling the best.”

 

Kwiatkowski was alert early on in the 139km test, claiming one bonus second in Ruda Slaska at the first intermediate sprint. A four-man break was controlled by Bora-Hansgrohe and finally caught with 10km to go. Hodeg emerged victorious in the sprint, with Lukasz Wisniowski leading Team Sky home in 22nd.
