Team Sky are proud to be supporting Manchester City’s club doctor Max Sala as he embarks upon the Race Across America in aid of City in the Community.

Sala is taking on the Race Across America (RAAM) - renowned as one of the world’s toughest bike races - to raise money and awareness for City in the Community’s One City Disability programme, which currently works with over 1,000 disabled people every year.

City in the Community engage with more than 40,000 young people in the Manchester area - home to Team Sky’s UK headquarters - and deliver 13,000 project hours per year.

RAAM (12-25 June) is a punishing 3,000 miles, starting in Oceanside, California and finishing at City Dock Annapolis, Maryland. The journey across 12 states includes 175,000 feet of climbing and has to be completed in just 12 days.
A huge cycling fan, Sala - who will spend up to 20 hours a day in the saddle during the challenge - is under no illusions as to how tough the task facing him is.

He said: “I’m very excited about the Race Across America - I can’t wait to get started now. I have been training and preparing for over a year and now it’s finally here! It’s going to push me above my limit. It’s an extreme challenge.

“We’ve had some fantastic support to help us prepare for the race. Having the support of Team Sky has been a massive boost - we’re trying to raise as much money as we can through this challenge so having such incredible in kind support means that more money will go directly to the cause.

“I’m from Italy, yet me and my family, we feel that we are Mancunian. This is the reason why I want to give something back to Manchester. I want to complete the race for City in the Community and the children with disabilities. I want to help make their life better.”

Max will ride a customised Pinarello DOGMA F10 during the challenge, wear special edition Castelli kit, and be fuelled by Science in Sport during his ride.

“The Pinarello bikes, Castelli kit and Science in Sport products are just perfect - I couldn’t ask for any more! Teaming up with the biggest name in cycling has created a great partnership and I hope that during the race I will do both Team Sky and Manchester City proud.”
