Geraint Thomas became the first British winner of the Tour de Suisse after a resounding final time trial performance.
After a nip and tuck race, the Welshman produced the second fastest time on a sweltering day, finishing just three seconds off the stage win, but ensuring an emphatic GC victory by one minute and 12 seconds.
The Grenadier came into the stage just two seconds off yellow, but used all his power and experience to see off nearest rival Sergio Higuita (Bora-Hansgrohe).
The victory represented three Tour de Suisse victories in a row for the team, following Egan Bernal (2019) and Richard Carapaz (2021).
Daniel Martinez also put in a superb performance against the clock, setting the fourth fastest time to jump up to eighth place overall. Dylan van Baarle made it three Grenadiers in the top-10 times with 10th on the day.
Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step - AlphaVinyl) produced the fastest time on the day, just three seconds ahead of Thomas.

“[The win] is super nice actually. I was second here back in 2015. I was second going into the TT there as well but (Simon) Spilak overtook me and I lost that by five seconds. It’s super nice to win here – it’s something I’ve always wanted to do – especially after that narrow loss.

“It’s really nice to win such a big race and such a hard race. With the weather, for sure it’s the hottest race I’ve done consistently.
“Especially with the heat you had to be conservative and not be aggressive too early. It’s super hard racing. Obviously the stage (Aleksandr) Vlasov won in Mendrisio was a really hard day, but they’ve all been tough to be fair! [It was about] consistency and always being up there in the right place.
“We lost our leader in (Adam) Yates which was unfortunate. To rally and do what we’ve done has been super satisfying.”
