Egan Bernal rode hard through a leg-bursting finale to stage 13 to finish 10th amongst the sprinters at La Vuelta.

The Colombian was moved into position by his teammates in the closing kilometres, but was forced to bridge across a gap late on to remain within a fracturing lead group. The white jersey eventually finished six seconds back on sprint winner Florian Senechal, and five seconds ahead of his GC rivals.

Adam Yates was part of that chasing pack, with the pair remaining seventh and eighth overall as the classification went largely unchanged.

The stage looked far from straightforward with 60km to go as brief crosswinds split the peloton into three distinct groups. Yates was alert to the danger and looked comfortable at the front before things came back together.

On the run-in, Pavel Sivakov and Salvatore Puccio helped bring Bernal and Yates forward, with Tom Pidcock also working hard late on to help give Bernal a chance to bridge between the groups.
