Vuelta a Burgos - Stage 1 » Burgos (Catedral) › Burgos (El Castillo), 161km

Egan Bernal, Adam Yates and Daniel Martinez were all able to remount and finish the stage following a crash on the opening day of Vuelta a Burgos.

The three riders had been part of the second group on the road when a large crash took down a number of riders with 19 kilometres to go. The trio were assessed at the roadside before continuing at their own pace to the finish, with Carlos Rodriguez also waiting at the scene for his teammates.

Bernal, Yates and Martinez suffered contusions and abrasions in the crash and after a post-stage assessment, will be monitored by the INEOS Grenadiers medical team ahead of Wednesday’s stage.

A stage win had looked like a possibility at one point during the run-in, with Pavel Sivakov and Jhonatan Narvaez forming part of a select group off the front of the race. With the gap touching over 1:20 the situation had looked good, but a sustained chase by the peloton saw the riders caught with just 3.8km to go.

Sivakov was the team’s lead finisher atop the Alto del Castillo in 22nd place, 20 seconds back on stage winner Edward Planckaert (Alpecin-Fenix).
