Elia Viviani sprinted to sixth place at the Coppa Sabatini as Team Sky kicked off a late-season block of Italian races.

The event culminated in a bunch kick in Peccioli with Andrea Pasqualon (Wanty-Groupe Goubert) taking the victory, leaving home an all Italian podium of Sonny Colbrelli (Bahrain Merida) and Francesco Gavazzi (Androni-Sidermec).

Seven riders pushed on up the road early on and saw their advantage gradually eroded as the laps were clipped off across 195.9 kilometres.

Team Sky rode hard to bring the race back together with 5km to go in time for a bunch sprint, with Viviani picking up another top-10 finish.

The peloton split up significantly on the run in, with Lukasz Wisniowski the next man home in one of a number of splintered chase groups.

The action continues on Saturday with the Giro dell’Emilia.
