Deutschland Tour stage four: Schiltach › Stuttgart, 186.6km.

Adam Yates rounded off a superb, composed team performance on the final stage to seal the INEOS Grenadiers’ first-ever victory at the Deutschland Tour.

Yates sprinted home in a select GC group in Stuttgart following strong pacing work from his teammates to secure the overall win after taking the lead on stage three.

Earlier, the Grenadiers were forced to work hard to control a strong breakaway which could have threatened Yates’ jersey.

Kim Heiduk and Laurens de Plus maintained a manageable gap to the large breakaway, which contained a handful of riders around two-three minutes behind Yates overall.

Excellent work from the duo kept the gap to within two minutes, with Ben Tulett and Filippo Ganna then taking over on the finishing circuit in Stuttgart.

Ganna all-but secured the GC win by halving the break's lead with a hard pace, before Tulett played a key role on the climb to reduce the gap.

The race came back together in the final kilometres, with Yates sprinting to the the line in a reduced GC group to secure overall victory.

"Today was a super tough day, but the team rode amazingly. It was a super dangerous break, which we tried to control in the beginning, but everybody wanted to be in the break so we had to pull hard.

“The guys did an amazing job all the way to the finish, I didn’t really touch the wind until the final. I couldn’t be more happy or to have asked for any more.

“It means so much as I had so much bad luck this season, but for the team to ride for me the way they did today - they had so much confidence in me, which really means a lot. I'm super happy, now onto the rest of the season.”
