AJ August continued his superb form at the Tour of Austria to finish in second place on the stage three summit finish.

The young American hit out impressively with 1.2 kilometres to go on the first-category Gaisberg climb, pushing clear of a reduced peloton.

Three riders took up the chase, including overall leader Felix Grossschartner (UAE Team Emirates – XRG). Despite opening out a useful gap, with 200 metres to go it would be fellow UAE rider Isaac De Toro who accelerated hard to go clear and win the stage, crossing the line five seconds ahead of August.

The result elevates AJ up to third overall, 13 seconds behind Del Toro and 16 back on continued leader Grossschartner.

The INEOS Grenadiers were able to back up the performance nicely, with Michael Leonard and Victor Langellotti making it three riders in the top 10 on the day, coming home ninth and 10th respectively. Bob Jungels was also present in the select lead group and finished 13th.
