The final day in the mountains saw the Grenadiers battle throughout the day on the penultimate stage of La Vuelta a Espana.
An active day at the Vuelta saw the Grenadiers push on as soon as the flag dropped, with Filippo Ganna making the first attack of the day. The Italian rider continued to push on solo, with Egan Bernal bridging over to form a two-up break.
It was quickly foiled, but other Grenadiers continued to storm the front, with Victor Langellotti, Michal Kwiatkowski and Bob Jungels all pulling huge turns.
A breakaway of around 30 riders was established under the pressure, with Jungels spearheading the front with Bernal and Brandon Rivera in towe.
Up the first big climb of the day, the Puerto de Navacerrada, the breakaway went backwards, with Bernal keeping on the pace with 12 others up the steep slopes.
On the run up to the Bola del Mundo, Bernal continued to push on alongside Mikel Landa (Soudal–Quick-Step), Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek) and Jardi van der Lee (EF Education-EasyPost). Landa eventually went clear with 11km to go, with Ciconne bridging over, before the group was caught.
Jonas Vingegaard (Visma - Lease A Bike) eventually took the stage win, all but sealing his overall victory tomorrow in Madrid.
After a solid effort throughout the day, Bernal finished in 21st place to close the final day in the mountains at La Vuelta a Espana.
