Bob Jungels won the fifth and final stage of the Tour of Austria, making the race’s history with the longest solo victory.
Jungels attacked solo from the break with 40km to go, and was able to cross the line with his arms aloft a minute and 45 seconds ahead of the peloton.
AJ August came home in 12th place to secure fifth on the GC after two podiums earlier in the Tour.
Another mountainous day saw Jungels make the break up the HC climb, the Furkajoch, with 130km to go. Working with three others, the rider from Luxembourg gained a three minute 30 second advantage, before taking matters into his own hands.
Going up the final categorised climb of the day at the 75km mark, Jungels pushed on the pace at the front, with only Luca Vergallito (Alpecin - Deceuninck) able to stick with him.
With 40km to go, Jungels attacked hard and dropped Vergallito in a last gasp effort. Emulating his national time trial winning efforts, Jungels took it all the way to the line, with the peloton unable to close the gap, and secured his second win for the Grenadiers.
