Axel Laurance sprinted to a superb second place on stage five of the Criterium du Dauphine as Jake Stewart (Israel-Premier Tech) sealed victory.
Laurance timed his kick to near-perfection in a bunch sprint after great teamwork from the Grenadiers to ensure the French rider was in a strong position heading into the finale in Macon.
The 24 year old was beaten on the line by Stewart, who was able to hold off the late burst from Laurance and take the stage win.
Earlier, Tobias Foss had ben aggressive in trying to bridge to the early break of the day on the undulating course.
Foss escaped the peloton and went clear with a number of other riders, only to be brought back before the Norwegian attacked again.
This move held for a time, but the chase group were eventually pulled back into the bunch before the peloton, with help from the Grenadiers, caught the remaining escapees to setup a sprint finish which saw Laurance seal second place.
