Michael Leonard claimed third place in the elite men’s road race at the Canadian National Championships to add to his time trial victory.
Attacks started early into the 197km race in Quebec, with Leonard managing to escape with a group of six. As the rain continued to fall, the group managed to rack up a four minute lead on the penultimate of the five laps.
Israel - Premier Tech teammates Derek Gee and Hugo Houle attacked, with Leonard the only one to hold onto them. The pair continued to work together in a bid to outwit Leonard, with Gee going clear in the final lap.
A 1:30 gap opened up with Leonard chasing as Houle held onto his wheel. In the closing stages of the race, Houle managed to distance Leonard, with the young Grenadier coming home in third place after a fantastic solo battle.
Elsewhere, future signing Benjamin Noval took his second national junior title of the weekend in the Spanish National Road Race Championships.
