Michael Leonard pulled off his first professional victory in style with a commanding win at the Canadian National Time Trial Championships.

The 21-year-old Grenadier clocked a winning time of 40 minutes and 29 seconds across the 34-kilometre course in Saint-Georges.

Leonard's time proved to be 35 seconds quicker than nearest rival Derek Gee (Israel - Premier Tech), with Gee's teammate Pier-Andre Cote rounding out the podium places in Quebec.

The result continues a strong year of progression for Leonard, who recently completed the Criterium du Dauphine. The win also marked the fourth time trial national title for the Grenadiers, following successes for Filippo Ganna (Italy), Tobias Foss (Norway) and Bob Jungels (Luxembourg) on Thursday.
