Rodriguez moves up following time trial

Carlos Rodriguez jumped up the general classification at the Tour de France following a strong ride in the stage five time trial.

The Spaniard clocked the 27th fastest time in Caen across the 33-kilometre course, moving up to 16th place overall in the process.

Newly crowned Norwegian national champion Tobias Foss was the fastest Grenadier on the day, setting the 14th fastest effort.

Remco Evenepoel (Soudal – Quick-Step) set the fastest time late on, crossing the line 16 seconds ahead of new race leader Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates – XRG).

Rodriguez now sits 4:04 back on the yellow jersey ahead of Thursday’s sixth stage.

Over at the Tour of Austria, AJ August put in a good ride on the opening stage to sprint to ninth place.

The American battled back well following the late ascent of the Porscheberg to ride his way into the group of chasers, ultimately finishing 16 seconds back on the stage winner.

On home soil Felix Grossschartner (UAE Team Emirates – XRG) pushed clear of his escape counterparts to win the stage by five seconds. Bob Jungels finished as part of the second chasing group on the road, 36 seconds back.
