Narvaez Fifth as Team Boss Finale

Jhonatan Narvaez sprinted to fifth in stage six of the Giro, after an assured performance from the Grenadiers.

The team bossed the three tricky ‘sterrato’ sectors that littered the final hour of racing. Ben and Connor Swift, along with Filippo Ganna, ensured the Grenadiers were well positioned into the first sector, with Ganna remaining on the front to keep Geraint out of trouble.

Onto the penultimate sector and Thymen Arensman took it up on the front, with Geraint Thomas on his wheel, to set a hard tempo. Magnus Sheffield then did a great ride to pace the bunch into and across the final sector, before Narvaez followed and shut down a dangerous move from Romain Bardet (dsm-firmenich PostNL) to ensure no time was lost to potential GC rivals.

Into the finish, and Narvaez launched a typically punchy sprint, to place fifth behind the breakaway on a day won by Pelayo Sanchez (Movistar).

Over in Hungary, Elia Viviani sprinted to sixth on the second stage of the race.

"A super hard day done in four hours – it was pretty quick! I can’t complain. It was obviously tough but we rode really well as a team. They did an amazing job keeping us at the front and out of trouble.
"We took the lead where we had to on the sectors, just to make it really as safe as possible and dictate what we were doing. Every man was just great. It was good to see Thymen with some strong legs back, that’s for sure."
