Brandon Rivera continued his fine form on the fifth stage of the Giro d’Italia, firing to eighth place in the bunch sprint.

A break of three escaped from the flag drop, and stayed away for the majority of the 151km stage, before being caught with 13km to go.

The Grenadiers spent the stage altogether, working well to keep Egan Bernal and Thymen Arensman in good positions for the GC. With 4km remaining, Lucas Hamilton hit the front of the peloton with Josh Tarling in tow. Hitting the kicker up the finishing straight, Rivera was in a fantastic position with Bernal close on his wheel.

As the sprint opened up, Rivera was just a few wheels back and came home in eighth, while Bernal and Arensman came in the bunch to maintain position on the GC.

Tomorrow offers a punchy 227km stage with two categorised climbs and two intermediate sprints, before a flat run into Napoli.
