Ethan Hayter got the Tour de Suisse off to a strong start for the INEOS Grenadiers with third place in the opening time trial.

A technical 4.7km course in Vaduz made for a rapid opening test, with Hayter crossing the line just under four seconds back on stage winner Yves Lampaert (Soudal Quick-Step).

The Brit was amongst the early runners who took advantage of dry roads and favourable conditions, before the rain began to fall midway through the day.

Tom Pidcock and Egan Bernal also enjoyed dry roads, setting times 17 and 18 seconds back respectively. Kim Heiduk also launched in a competitive time at 14 seconds down.

The race resumes on Monday with stage two and a day of short, sharp climbs.
